A Trip to the Museum

In order to better visualize the trip William Baumann took back to Minnesota after returning from France and World War 1, I was researching train travel through the Eastern United States. By chance, I discovered that Suffolk has a wonderful little museum of its own, dedicated to the history of Suffolk Virginia and its role as a railroad hub. Even though it is currently closed, the director Casper Hileman takes groups on personal tours. His enthusiasm and insight are truly worth the time.

What was so helpful to me for the book project was that Casper is not only well versed in railroad history, he is also a military history expert. A great afternoon!
